Aerosol art (as opposed to graffiti) is of global interest, and Cleveland has a strong base of talented such artists – and lots of ugly, blank and graffitied walls.
Being home to Sherwin Williams, which is I believe the world’s largest manufacturer of spray paint, Cleveland seems a natural city to be the world’s aerosol art capital – up there with Frankfurt and like progressive global arts capitals. There was an aerosol art competition in Ohio City last summer – on temporary walls – with great turnout and outcomes. In how many realms may we hope to be the world-leader, leveraging one of our few world-leadership enterprises? This will draw artists and arts follows from around the world, and they’ll enjoy our other cultural resources while here – perhaps decide to stay.
What are your thoughts?

Lillian Kuri and Melanie Fioritto of Cleveland Public Art are the leaders behind the City Xpressionz Graffiti Art Festival (going into it’s 3rd year in 2004). It’s growing every year, and they’re already well on their way to creating just what you talked about - see www.clevelandpublicart.com
